Berlin Economics presented initial findings on assessing green ammonia and e-fertiliser value chains in Ukraine
On 25 September 2025, Berlin Economics participated in a hybrid event organised by the H2-diplo Office Ukraine and the Promoting Green Deal Readiness in the Eastern Partnership Countries (ProGRess) project in Kyiv.

Our colleagues Robert Kirchner and Yiğit Tahmisoğlu, together with our expert Mariia Bogonos, presented the initial findings of an upcoming study on the potential development of green ammonia and e-fertiliser value chains in Ukraine.
Green ammonia, a key derivative of green hydrogen, can be exported as an energy carrier and is also a main component of e-fertilisers. This is particularly relevant for Ukraine, given its strong agricultural exports, robust industrial base, and significant renewable energy potential, factors that position the country well to develop competitive green ammonia and e-fertiliser value chains. Such a sector could help strengthen domestic food security, create export opportunities in both energy and agriculture, and support Ukraine’s long-term green recovery and reconstruction.
The presentation sparked an engaging discussion with Ukrainian stakeholders on the opportunities, challenges, and strategic priorities for building these value chains. It also emphasised the strong interest of the local community in aligning industrial development with Ukraine’s green transition and expanding export opportunities.
We would like to thank the H2-diplo and ProGRess projects for their excellent organisation and moderation, and all the participants for their valuable input and feedback.
