Dr Jan Abrell

Economist

Dr Jan Abrell is a freelance economist. He holds a diploma in economics from Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, as well as doctoral degree from the Technical University in Dresden.

Dr Abrell worked as policy-consultant for the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and as a senior researcher at ETH Zurich.

His main research focus is on environmental- and energy economics, as well as transport economics. He is particularly interested in the political regulation of air pollution, especially to combat climate change. Furthermore, he works on numerical programming, in particular in CGE-modelling.

He publishes in internationally peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Energy Economics.

Since mid-2020, he supports the activities of Berlin Economics with advisory work in energy economics. Together with our energy & climate team, he develops and implements a model to assess the effects of different energy policies and their impact, inter alia on energy consumption, emission levels, and investment costs.
