Study on flexibility options for the energy system of Ukraine

The expected targets for emission reduction and expansion of renewables and the future electrification of the heating and transport sector in Ukraine will further increase the need for flexibility in the Ukrainian electricity system.

On behalf of the German Energy Agency (dena), Berlin Economics analyses flexibility options for the Ukrainian energy system in order to promote its modernisation. The flexibility options should ensure that the electricity system is able to maintain a reliable balance between supply and demand and to integrate renewable energies efficiently.Berlin Economics provides recommendations for relevant energy policy makers on flexibility options on the basis of concrete comparative scenarios.

The flexibility scenarios are modelled with an electricity system model for Ukraine developed by Berlin Economics energy team.
