This project expanded plans for a commodity exchange in Minsk to include the ability to trade commodity futures. The establishment of a market for commodity futures contracts in Belarus, along with the market liberalization already underway, should help manage the anticipated high market volatility. This builds acceptance of reform efforts, contributing to a successful economic transformation.
In the framework of the project, strategic advice was provided to the management of the Belarusian Commodities Exchange (Belarussische Warenbörse, or BUCE), and training seminars and other events were held. At the end of the project, the Mink commodity exchange’s first futures contract was established.
