Ukraine: Energy efficiency in buildings

Source of Funding: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)

Period: 2008

Compared to other European countries buildings in Ukraine have an extremely high consumption of energy. At the same time a comprehensive strategy to diminish the energy use is missing. In particular, no loan programs exist to support citizens in modernizing and isolating their houses and raise awareness on the need of energy efficiency.

Within the GTZ-project “Energy efficiency in buildings” Berlin Economics conducted two studies to generate an overview of existing loan programs within the EU to improve energy efficiency in buildings. Based on these experiences a successive study simulated, which effects similar programs would have in Ukraine. At some conferences both studies were presented to the relevant decision makers in Ukraine.
